Making Hot Pads

Hot pads/ pot holders are fun and reasonable to make!  I love making them for gifts.  I buy InsulBrite, for the inside, and use an old towel with it-it is a great way to get rid of your towels.  I use my cutting mat, and rotary cutter.  I use this plastic things to measure, it is exactly 8 inches.  So you need 2 pieces of fabric, one for the top, and one for the bottom, 1 piece of InsulBrite, and one old towel, cut each one into an 8"x8" piece.  Then layer them and pin them together, and you can start sewing.
I take a bowl and flip it upside down, and use the curve to round my corners.  I stitch the pot holder in half, both ways, and then into quarters.  For the trim you can make your own, or use bias trim.

The finished skirt! It came out great!

The skirt came out great.  It was easy to make!  The fabric was $2.00 at Walmart.  I bought the pattern for half off of $11.95.  This is the second time I have made this pattern.  It is such a cute pattern, that is classic!

Making a jean skirt

You can see on the top I hemmed the fabric, and flipped it up, and hemmed it again.  When making this skirt I sewed both of the top pieces of the ruffles together.  I did the gathering by hand.  I used a needle and thread and stitched about 1/4 of and inch weaving in and out.  Then you pull your thread to gather, and you try to distribute the gathering evenly.  I pinned it together, and sewed it on the top.

This pattern is very easy.  The hardest part is cutting everything out.
